Small Poetry Press (1987-2007)

For twenty years David Alpaugh operated Small Poetry Press—a poetry book design and printing service that produced hundreds of books for self-publishing poets nationwide. SPP also produced books for outside organizations that included Elixir Press, Red Wing Press, Sarasota Poetry Theatre Press, and the Ina Coolbrith Circle; and for literary journals that included Alehouse, Blue Sofa Review, Carquinez Poetry Review, Coracle, Green Annie Review, Peralta Press Literary Journal, and Poets On:.

Small Poetry Press sponsored a poetry book chapbook contest for many years. Judges included Philip Dacey, Stephen Dunn, Jane Hirshfield, Lynne Knight, and F.D. Reeve. The winning chapbooks were published under SPP's Select Poets Series imprint. Also published by invitation in the Select Poets Series were poetry chapbooks and full collections by Rachel Dacus, Ruth Daigon, Robert Eastwood, Lynne Knight, Kathleen Lynch, Robert Sward, and Harold Witt. Most of these books are still in print (see "Contest Winners" and "Select Poets Series" pages for details on how to order direct from the authors).
